The Ryobi Swivel Grinder is a 24v battery operated grinding wheel that utilizes innovative swivel joints to ensure a smooth finish from any angle. 

What if there was a power tool with new innovative features that improved the users experience and helps get the job done quickly?

Jeff is an Industrial Design professor at the University of Cincinnati. One hobby of his is car restoration, where he focuses on bringing old cars such as the International Scout back to life. In his garage, there are a ton of tools used for his restoration process.

Small chorded sander, used for polishing and removing small blemishes.

Big chorded sander, used for large surface blemishes and removing material.

User Preferences

1.     Values ergonomic design for comfort and usability.  

 

2.     Prefers cordless tools for convenience, but understands some tools need to be corded to ensure proper power and use time. 

3.     Prioritizes brand and reputation over aesthetics. 

 

4.     Looks for tools that are capable, reliable, and durable emphasizing functionality.

Analyzing the general user process of car paint restoration and user tool interaction. 

1) Making sure the surface is clean of debris so there isn’t any unwanted scratching.

1) Applying proper PPE to ensure you’re not ingesting any toxic dust and fumes.

1) Keeping proper pressure on tool to ensure there isn’t any unwanted scratching or over sanding.

 

2) Keeping the surface moist.

 

3) Changing sandpaper out for new, or a different grit frequently. 

 

4) Properly managing power source such as a chord or battery.
